I am a history professor,

a historic preservationist,

a teacher, writer, and activist,

a happy husband and father,

and a citizen of the world.

SCHOLARSHIP
Louis Venters Charleston Louis Gregory

I am the author or co-author of a number of public history projects and publications, including two monographs, No Jim Crow Church: The Origins of South Carolina's Bahá’í Community (University Press of Florida, 2015) and A History of the Baha'i Faith in South Carolina (The History Press, 2019).

ABOUT ME
florence library_edited_edited.jpg

I am a historian and historic preservationist with particular interest in race, religion, and social change in the United States. I was born in eastern South Carolina, and although I've lived and worked around the world, I feel fortunate to be back in this region at Francis Marion University.

TEACHING
13198479_1364558583561557_27464636081277

My sensibility as a scholar—attention to histories of race and religion, to the natural and built environments, and to individual and community capacity-building—is reflected in my introductory or upper-level courses, student advising and mentoring, and internship supervision.
