UPCOMING: Janet Ruhe-Schoen on Her New Book about Louis Gregory, at Our House!
My family is looking forward to hosting Janet Ruhe-Schoen to an intimate gathering at the end of the month to discuss her new book from Baha'i Publishing, Champions of Oneness: Louis Gregory and His Shining Circle. It is the first new biography in a generation of Louis Gregory, the son of freedpeople from near here in Darlington County, South Carolina, who went on to become one of the foremost proponents of racial reconciliation in early-twentieth-century America and a leader of the Baha'i Faith in the U.S. This work is especially welcome because it weaves Louis Gregory's own moving story with those of his collaborators--black and white, northern and southern--who worked together and against all odds to build an alternative to the color-line in the Jim Crow era.
A resident of New York’s Hudson River Valley, Ms. Ruhe-Schoen is an author, poet, and former journalist who spent many years living and working in South America. Her previous biographies include Rejoice in My Gladness: The Life of Tahirih (2011) and A Love Which Does Not Wait (1998).
Join us from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 in Florence for a reading and discussion, book signing, and refreshments.
