Do Not Come for St. Helena Island!

A great story on SC Public Radio a few weeks ago about a proposed golf course development on St. Helena Island got me hot!

As a professor who teaches the history of the Gullah-Geechee people, the Civil War and Reconstruction, and the civil rights movement; as a historic preservationist who knows that the landscapes and waterscapes are often integral to telling the stories of who we are; as an environmentalist who wants to leave a living planet for future generations; and as an American committed to building a multiracial democracy, I join my voice with the chorus to say: Do not come for St. Helena Island!
