Announcing Michael Twitty's New Book on the Culinary History of Black Southerners

Culinary historian Michael Twitty has just announced that his new book, The Cooking Gene: A Journey through African-American Culinary History in the Old South, will be released in November and is now available for pre-ordering on Amazon.

I had the good fortune of meeting Michael and hearing him speak passionately about the history of rice and southern culture at the first annual conference of the Slave Dwelling Project in Savannah two years ago, and since then I've been keeping up with his brilliant mind, keen wit, and uncommonly generous heart via his blog, Afroculinaria.com and Facebook.

I'm looking forward to getting this book, and to getting Michael to my univeristy campus to speak to our students.

Highly recommended for all who long to hear and tell the whole truth about who southerners are and where we come from!
