Whoa!

I'm not a poet, and I try not to curse quite as much as this guy, but his analysis of whiteness is pretty spot-on.

I've been reflecting for some time on what must take the place of the conception of whiteness that is summarized so cogently in this poem. Does it mean attaching a whole different suite of characteristics to the term--that is, creating a new culture under the rubric of whiteness--or do we also need a new name to reflect a new identity?

Either way, those of us who see ourselves and are seen as belonging to America's white racial caste stand in desperate need of new ways of being and doing.

Our own souls--and the welfare of every other human being on this planet--depend on it.
